Rivers Casino Pittsburgh Completes Another Payment Towards SEA

Latest News

The Rivers Casino location in Pittsburgh has completed another payment towards the PPG Paints Arena. According to figures released by the riverscasino.com website, total payments made by the Rivers Casino have reached $112.5 million.

Twice a year, once in April and again in October, the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh makes a payment to the Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County (SEA). For those unaware, the PPG Paints Arena was built in 2010 for the Pittsburgh Penguins. As part of the construction project, the SEA formed a 30-year agreement with the local casino to help pay for construction. Annually, the casino pays $7.5 million, meaning that payments should be completed by 2038. At that point, the casino will have contributed $225 million to the stadium build.

“Rivers Casino continues to demonstrate a steadfast commitment to our community and to the citizens of Allegheny County,” said Sports & Exhibition Authority executive director Aaron Waller. “We appreciate Rivers’ ongoing partnership and its support of PPG Paints Arena.”

It’s worth mentioning that these figures do not include the almost $160 million generated annually by the casino through tax revenue. The state, Allegheny County, and the city of Pittsburgh all receive a slice of the pie, even the city’s economic development and tourism fund.

The casino’s last payment in October was $4.2 million. On April 1st, 2024, the casino will make another payment of $3.3 million.

“We’re always proud of the Pittsburgh Penguins and pleased to support their home ice,” said Rivers Casino Pittsburgh general manager Bud Green. “We thank the SEA for its partnership and look forward to another exciting season of hockey and other entertainment at PPG Paints Arena.”
