Bay Mills Resort & Casino Announce Plans for $65 Million Renovation

At the end of September, the Bay Mills Resort & Casino announced a massive renovation of their property in Brimley, Pennsylvania. The casino and hotel, located in Waiska Bay on Lake Superior, will receive an array of new amenities. 

General Manager of the Bay Mills Resort & Casino, Richard LeBlanc, said, “Bay Mills Resort & Casino is well loved by its visitors. This expansion will allow us to take things one step further to meet the needs of our guests, while also providing them with a one-of-a-kind experience on Lake Superior.”

The casino hotel was opened in 1995 and is owned and operated by the Bay Mills Indian Community. The casino currently has over 600 slot machines, 8 table games, two restaurants, a gift shop, a golf course, a hotel, and 124 RV sites. Bay Mills Casino is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the Upper Peninsula at 11386 W Lakeshore Drive in Brimley. Just over an hour away, guests will find Tahquamenon Falls among numerous hiking trails and beach access points. Point Iroquois Lighthouse is also conveniently close to the property, only a 5-mile drive north.

The Bay Mills Casino and Hotel renovations are expected to begin in Spring 2023 and could take up to a year to complete. The $65 million is being used to add several new amenities to the property. 

The information was delivered by Bay Mills Community President Whitney Gravelle, through a Facebook post on a public group named, “Bay Mills Indian Community Tribal Chairperson.” The renovations will include adding 134 new rooms with balconies, a spa with massage therapy rooms, a pool with splash pad, hot tubs, a deli, a nail salon, a fitness center, an arcade, a conference space, and a storefront. 

The hotel will also be improving its exterior space including new fishing piers, marina upgrades, outdoor patios, gazebos, and garden space. Employees of the hotel are also receiving upgrades to break rooms and employee spaces. 

Currently, the Bay Mills Hotel and Casino employs more than 200 people. The renovations could bring that number to over 250-300 quickly.

Expanding our enterprise operations will allow us to continue to grow and become the number-one destination in the Upper Peninsula. I’m so proud of our team and our tribal nation for this achievement.”

The Bay Mills Community is expecting to bid out the project this fall. Duluth, MN architect group, DSGW Architects, will work with Bay Mills on the project. DSGW Architects specialize in hand-crafting healthcare, education, commercial, and indigenous architecture, according to its website.

DraftKings Sportsbooks at Bay Mills Resort & Casino

Bay Mills and DraftKings have been online casino and sportsbook partners since iGaming and sports betting launched in Pennsylvania in January 2021. In June, DraftKings opened a temporary sportsbook at the Bay Mills Resort & Casino with plans for the permanent DraftKings sportsbook opening in the Fall. Bay Mills Resort & Casino now has November 6th as the tentative opening date for the retail sportsbook, just in time for Lions vs. Packers game.
