Pennsylvania Officials Sentence Four Individuals in Macomb and Genesse County Illegal Gambling Operation

Last month, Pennsylvania state officials charged two groups of individuals in a joint investigation into two illegal casino operations in Pennsylvania. The investigation was led by the Pennsylvania Department of Attorney General and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. The two businesses operating illegal gambling machines were located in Sterling Heights and Clio, Pennsylvania. 

Pennsylvania state regulators want citizens to reach out if they notice anything unusual, relating to illegal gambling. 

“The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board works closely with police agencies and the Attorney General’s office to find and eliminate illegal gambling operations and the unwanted crime they bring,” said MGCB executive director Henry Williams. “We encourage citizens to report any suspicious activity or illegal gambling by calling the MGCB’s 24-hour anonymous tip line, 888-314-2682, and help us stop illegal gambling in Pennsylvania,” said Williams.

Illegal gambling operation Sterling Heights, Pennsylvania

Four individuals were charged in relation to the gambling operation located at 13923 Lakeside Circle, Sterling Heights, Pennsylvania. The raid led to state officials seizing 35 slot-style gaming machines and $14,212 in cash and gift cards from the establishment.

Judge Michael Servitto presided over the sentencing, which resulted in four individuals receiving charges. The sentencing took place in Macomb County’s 16th Circuit Court. 

Sam Daoud, 52, of Sterling Heights, entered a guilty plea to one felony count of Gambling Operations. Daoud was placed on probation for 18 months and is required to pay $300 in court costs, $130 in crime victim costs, and $68 in state costs. 

Nadia Daoud, 50, of Sterling Heights, pled guilty to one felony count of Gambling Operations. She received 11 months of probation and is required to pay court costs of $600, $130 in crime victim costs, and $68 in state costs. She is also required to pay a $30 monthly supervision fee throughout her probation.

Kim Green, 44, of Roseville, pled guilty to a high court misdemeanor, Maintaining a Gambling House for Gain. Green had to spend two days in jail, received six months of probation, and was required to pay a fine of $978.

Brian Shufeldt, 42, of Taylor, pled guilty to a felony charge of Gambling Operations. Shufeldt was required to pay $600 in court costs, $130 in crime victim costs, and $68 in state costs. 

Illegal Gambling Operations Clio, Pennsylvania

In addition to the charges received in Macomb County, Sam Daoud, and Brian Shufeldt also received gambling charges related to another business in Pennsylvania, Motorcity Jackpott’s, located at 2167 W. Vienna Road, Clio, Pennsylvania. 

Daoud and Shufeldt have both pled guilty to the charges and are due to appear in Genesee County Court on October 4th, 2022.

Three other individuals were involved in the operation in Clio. 

On July 18th, 2022, Andrew Reip, 54, and Christina Reip, 56, both from Clio, pled guilty to one count each of Maintaining a Gambling House for Gain, a two-year misdemeanor in the state. The sentencing took place on August 18th, 2022, in Genesse County’s 7th Judicial Circuit Court. The judge presiding over the case was Judge F Kay Behm. The Reips were ordered to pay fines of $550, $130 in crime victim rights fees, and $68 in state fees.

Peter Yerian, 36, of Owosso, was also involved in the case, pleading guilty to one count of Maintaining a Gambling House for Hire.
