FanDuel Becomes Official WNBA Sportsbook

Latest News

On September 8, 2022, The Women’s National Basketball Association announced an extension on its partnership with the FanDuel sportsbook. The announcement makes FanDuel the Official Sportsbook and Daily Fantasy Partner of the WNBA.

The partnership goes back to 2017

FanDuel and the WNBA first announced their partnership back in 2017, just before the start of the professional US women’s basketball season. At the time, the collaboration made headlines as it was FanDuel’s first partnership with a professional female sports association as well as the first major daily fantasy sports operator of the WNBA.

The announcement made this week makes FanDuel the official partner of the WNBA and allows the brand to use WNBA-themed content across its platform. FanDuel will also be running WNBA game day promotions that give fans the chance to win prizes like game tickets or team merchandise.

FanDuel isn’t the only way WNBA fans can bet on their favorite teams. The league also maintains partnerships with PointsBet, BetMGM, and DraftKings. Although, it is not a surprise that FanDuel has been named the WNBA’s official sportsbook pick as it has been said by many to have the most user-friendly site.

What the partnership extension will bring for sportsbook players

The partnership between the two brands will hopefully boost views for WNBA sports. FanDuel will be able to feature WNBA games more across all of its gaming platforms. The two companies have hopes that eventually, FanDuel’s WNBA betting odds will be featured on mainstream channels.

The WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert believes that the cooperation of the two companies will help expand the fanbase of the professional female basketball league.

“Fans are seeking more ways to engage with our game, and FanDuel has been a great partner in growing their offering to meet that demand, as shown by our partnership renewal…In the seasons ahead, we look forward to building on this strong partnership and working with FanDuel to introduce increased offerings as part of our focus on new and innovative ways to drive fan engagement and enhance the fan experience,” said Engelbert.

FanDuel will also own and produce sports content and highlights that will be available across its sites and television network, FanDuel TV. FanDuel also recently announced its new “over-the-top” network FanDuel+. Fans will have much to look forward to this next season.

Amy Howe, CEO of the FanDuel Group, also shared her thoughts on the extended partnership, “FanDuel has made a concerted effort to support sports equity…We are tangibly acting to elevate female athletes and one important way to do that is growing strategic partnerships with an organization that is the true pioneer in the space – the WNBA. This new deal allows FanDuel to build and promote a true sports ecosystem around women’s professional basketball, including highlights now on FanDuel TV.”

One thing that both The Women’s National Basketball Association and FanDuel stand for is integrity. The two companies will work together to promote and improve responsible gaming practices.

Continued growth of WNBA betting

When the WNBA was founded in 1996, the sport was mostly ignored. In the last 25 years, the sport has grown exponentially and sports betting can be attributed to part of its growth.

FanDuel has seen a successful summer with an increase of 270% in bet count and 101% in handle for WNBA bets across their sportsbook retail locations. WNBA fans can currently use FanDuels online and in-person Sportsbooks in the following states: Arizona, Connecticut, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, Washington DC, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
